Opening Pages:
"Ho hum," yawned Mr.Tortoise. "Winter is here."
"So it is," yawned Mrs. Tortoise. "Come on, Shelley, time for bed."
"But I don't feel sleepy yet," said Shelley.
"Ridiculous!" cried Mr. Tortoise. "All tortoises go to sleep for the winter."
Synopsis:
Shelley wants to stay awake instead of hibernating with her parents. "Ridiculous!" her parents say, but she goes out to explore the snow and cold anyway. She soon finds out that her parents and the animals she meets are right. Wheee! She returns home in a wonderful, fun and fast way! And before she could say "Ridiculous!" she was fast asleep.
This is a fun read for this time of year!

I enjoy non-hibernation stories :)
ReplyDeleteAt these temperatures - I'm all for running back inside!!! Thanks for this fun pick, Janet.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds delightful, Janet! And I love the cover illustration - makes the story look like warm cozy fun! Thanks for a great review and all those great resources! :)
ReplyDeleteThe cover is a winner. Love hibernation stories and today is a perfect day for it with snow for many of us! Bet she slides all the way home.
ReplyDeleteThis is a book I would have related to as a child. I've always hated to go to bed. Still do, most nights.
ReplyDeleteOh, this cover is cute! Thanks so much for the recommendation!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter bought this book in preschool from the Scholastic book club flier. It is a cute little story with sweet illustrations.
ReplyDeleteI am ALL for hibernating in these temperatures! (8 degrees F here)

This sounds perfect for this time of year. Good choice!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good one to cuddle up with!
ReplyDeleteIt's snowing here now--and sorry, Shelley, hibernation sounds like a great idea! Shelley is such a great name for a tortoise :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute cover. The story sounds fun and I am picking she slides on her back all the way home...lol. Great find Janet.
ReplyDeleteYes, everyone she slipped on ice! Faster and faster she went...faster than a dog could run...faster than a cat...until suddenly she hit a bump...and flew into the air like a bird! She had a fun trip home!
ReplyDeleteI love the name Shelly for the tortoise. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute beginning to the story! Pretty cover, too. Just reading about snow makes me cold, LOL! Hope you are staying warm!
ReplyDeleteI love all these winter-inspired book recommendations this week. You all are making me long for snow (from California). Janet, I noticed you are from WV. My in-laws are near Wheeling. It's beautiful country. Kirsten Larson
ReplyDeleteWheeling is a neat old city, I love the old suspension bridge there. It is much farther north than we are, but we pass through it when we go to Newell for the Fiesta tent sales.
DeleteOh wow Janet! This looks adorable. Real cozy. This is a "I wish I'd written it" type of story. Great list of resources too. I haven't done any PPBF's because of my blog hacking. I might do some after I get my WP blog going.
ReplyDeleteI missed you too. So good to be back!
This sounds like a really good children's book. I would love to read it myself. I love the lovely cover and the story. So glad you are doing childre's writing. I have always enjoyed children's picture books.
ReplyDeleteI love this story idea. We have Bear's First Winter, which is a fun non-hibernation story.
ReplyDeleteThis book sounds adorable! With all of the snow we have been getting in CT lately I will have to check this one out. :)
