WORD FOR THE WEEK

STAMP:

A small adhesive piece of paper stuck to something to show that an amount of money has been paid, in particular a postage stamp

EXAMPLE:

I need some stamps to mail in my submission.

QUOTE:

"Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there." Josh Billings (American Humorist)

As writers, we need stamps. We need stamps to mail in our submissions. A few days ago I stopped at the post office to buy a book of stamps. I asked if there were any commemorative stamps I could buy. They are usually prettier to the eye than the regular books of stamps.

This is what I came out of our post office with: A book of Harry Potter stamps.

I have a problem. I don't want to use these stamps.

I solved my problem by buying another (regular) book of stamps.

Have you seen these stamps? Would you, as a writer, be tempted not to use them?

PS: I used to collect stamps. They are a weakness of mine.

  1. These stamps are lovely. We do not have these stamps here. What our post office has is the stamps with pretty spring flowers. I like those a lot and bought two books. I'm ready for spring! I hope you are well and you've made it through this cold, harsh winter well.
Good to visit your blog. I always enjoy visiting it.

    1. Hi Brenda! Your post office probably has them, they just don't give them out unless you ask for special ones. I am so ready for spring, but I don't know if spring is ready to arrive here yet or not.

  2. Ah! I LOVE it. No, I wouldn't be able to use those stamps either. But... My kids would probably commandeer them and stick them all over their walls--when I wasn't looking. *sigh*

    1. Hi Crystal! Oh no, if you get them, you'd better hide them from the kids.

  3. I can see why as a collector you might not want to use them. I think I'd finally want to spread them around more than I'd want to keep them -- but it is tempting!

    1. Hi Marcia. I know what you mean, they would be neat to put on submissions or to writer friends.

  4. I know exactly how you feel about special stamps. When I go to the post office I always ask to see the stamps before I buy. When I mail cards to friends I pick specific stamps depending on the friend I'm mailing the card to.

    1. That's a neat idea, Donna. Seeing a letter with a neat stamp on it could perk up a person's day.
