Writing Wednesday - I'm Back

I decided to bring my writing posts back over to Creative Writing in the Blackberry Patch!

In addition to being a  follower, you can follow me here by getting email updates each time I post. There is a place on my side bar to do that, for some reason I can't get that gadget to work on my other blog.

For those of you who don't follow my other blog, I haven't stopped writing. If I wasn't stubborn and persistent I would have stopped a long time ago, though.

But like these little birds, I feel  like there is always room for one more. So I keep sending my manuscripts out into the world to join all the other writers and their manuscripts.

If you don't send your work out there, there will always be that nagging thought in the back of your mind.

"Did I let one get away?"

So be persistent and stubborn and keep trying just like The Little Engine Who Could.

We don't want any "What ifs" or any "If I only had of . . ." thoughts floating around in our minds this year.

So join writing groups-get other people's help and opinion on your stories, edit, edit, edit and join the crowd around the feeder and reap your rewards. The opportunities are out there if we just look for them and grab a hold.

I have sent in four submissions so far this month and have started rewriting a picture book that got me into writing five years ago. I haven't given up on that story yet. If I keep at it, I am determined I will get it right one of these days.

We need, as writer friends, to stick together and build up each others confidence.
If you know of any writing opportunities, helpful writing sites or contests out there let us know about it and I will do the same.

What have we got to lose?

If you have a writing blog and I don't already follow it, let me know and I will be glad to follow.
I have a list of writing links on my side bar. I have went through them and they all work, so if you get the chance, click on a few that sound interesting to you.

It's good to be back over here. Hope you hop on over and join me.

  1. Well, hello there! Glad your back here. And great post! We should never give up.

  2. Hi Susan, thanks for commenting and not forgetting about me. It's good to be back.

  3. HI JANET,
I don't write but I sure love books. So I'm really planning on you getting good news from the stories you submit, just keep doing it, like you said, you can't get published if you hide your writting in a drawer.Gotta get it out there.
    Nancy Jo

  4. Good luck with the submissions. Yes. We have to try. It's great to hear you say you are working on your story. Who knows where it will lead or it might inspire you for another story.

  5. I'm like you. I've rooted out some of my old children's picture book manuscripts that I have faith in and I'm reworking them. I haven't submitted anything yet this year but I will.

  6. Thanks, Nancy Jo, if I don't get published it wont be from lack of trying. Thanks Stacy, I hope it leads to finally getting it right and Rosalind good luck with your picture books.

  7. Hi Janet, I love the set up of the new blog! I am looking forward to reading both. I have been thinking about starting a second blog too. I am not sure yet how I'm going to go about it though. You are a wonderful writer and I am looking forward to reading more of your Writing Wednesday, it is one of my favorite posts. Have a lovely evening! Delisa :)

  8. Hi Janet~glad to see you back on your writing blog! I'm glad to hear that you are working on that first project that started you writing. I still have mine tucked away and plan to do the same with it--hopefully this year. I haven't sent out any submissions in quite a few months, as things have been pretty busy around our place--but you've got me thinking I need to get busy and get some out there!

  9. Hi Janet glad to see you back.. I love your new Blog and look forward to your posts.. I have a hard time keeping up with mine lately, to many distractions that can't always be helped.. I will check in from time to time.. I wish you lots of luck with your submissions..Susie

  10. I found you! Good for you for not giving up. Nobody said this writing thing is an easy road to follow.

  11. Good luck with your picture book, Janet. I hope it's going well!

  12. Hey Janet: I had the name wrong. It's Sleepytown Press, not Sleepy time.
Check this link out. They are looking for children's picture book author's right now:

Thank you for your comments. I love comments!
